Well I figured I would post this here and see what those members of the site in the u.k. think.
The national Hockey League will be holding a regular season hockey game in London u.k. for the start of the next season in October of this year.
Now I'm only assuming here that hockey is not very big in the uk? Is hockey shown on any form of media in Britain?
Are scores and highlights part of the average sportscast?
hmmm I guess we'll just have to wait and see how successfull, or unsuccessfull it will be.
While it's not mainstream, we do have teams, the Cardiff Devils, is the closest one to me. There's also one in Sheffield, ... the Eagles I think they're called. lol Haven't followed it for ages. Anyway, it's not part of the usual sportscast, but in hockey season it is aired on TV on a programme of its own. Lives, however, it is pretty big, so me thinks it'd be a game to watch live, rather than aired on TV.
Why is it that the Americans always have to come to London with their sports? I understand it's the capital, but think about the logic of this. London has several major soccer clubs, which attract a lot of supporters. It's own hockey team couldn't complete the season due to lack of resources. London also has big sporting occasions of other kinds. There are other cities, where this experiment would be more successful, such as Derby, Leeds, or in a city where the UK already has a hockey team. There is less to compete with in those cities. The only reason it will be a success in London is that some people will travel from all over the country. What about the American fans? Don't they deserve to be able to watch every home match their team plays? I wouldn't wish to have a situation where our soccer clubs went to the US to play some of their home Premiership matches, just to give soccer more publicity there. Home matches should be played in front of home crowds.
